A passionate advocate for maternal justice and birth equity, Cessilye is particularly committed to honoring the legacy of Black midwives and strengthening pathways for the next generation of birth workers. Through Abide's scholarship and workforce development initiatives, more than ten scholarships have been awarded to student midwives of color, helping increase representation and access within the maternal healthcare workforce.

With more than two decades of leadership experience and over a decade of advocacy in maternal and racial justice, Cessilye brings a unique perspective shaped by both professional expertise and personal experience. Her own challenges with conception and pregnancy deepened her understanding of the barriers many families face and continue to fuel her commitment to creating systems that promote dignity, equity, and thriving communities. Her work is grounded in the principles of Rest, Resist, and Restore.

As a nonprofit executive and community health innovator, Cessilye oversees strategic planning, fundraising, operations, program development, and organizational growth. She has led significant fundraising efforts, including a multi-million-dollar capital campaign, while guiding Abide through periods of rapid expansion and increasing community impact.

Cessilye is a sought-after speaker and thought leader whose insights on maternal health, leadership, faith, racial justice, and social impact have been shared with healthcare organizations, faith communities, nonprofits, educational institutions, policymakers, and national audiences. She has participated in national conversations on maternal health and health equity, including opportunities through White House initiatives and other leadership forums.
